Transferring the 3DEXPERIENCE Administrator

Changing the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform Administrator

The Replace Me feature transfers 3DEXPERIENCE Platform Administrator access from one user to another. There are two common reasons to use it:

  1. You want a different Platform Administrator
For example, the current administrator is leaving the company, or another person will manage your SOLIDWORKS licenses. If someone only needs to serve as the Platform Administrator and manage users and role assignments, they need the 3DSwymer role (you will need at least two 3DSwymer roles as one role needs in this scenario to be dedicated to the administrator and the other the SOLIDWORKS end user – otherwise they will not be able to access the platform).
  2. You have a single SOLIDWORKS license and need to move the account or license to another user.
This commonly happens when the person who purchased SOLIDWORKS originally set up the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, but someone else will actually use SOLIDWORKS. In a single-user environment, there may be no reason to maintain a separate administrator account because adding another person to the Platform requires assigning the appropriate platform role(s). Replace Me allows the original account holder to transfer the administrator access and associated roles to the intended SOLIDWORKS user.

Before You Begin

Make sure:

  • You can sign in as the current Platform Administrator.
  • The current administrator has held the 3DSwymer role for at least 30 days. If it was assigned within the last 30 days, Replace Me will not be available.
  • You have the email address of the new administrator or user.
  • The new user has, or can create, a 3DEXPERIENCE ID.

If the current administrator has left the company: If you still have access to their company email account, you may be able to reset their 3DEXPERIENCE password and regain access. If you cannot access the account, contact technical support for assistance.

Change the Platform Administrator

  1. Sign in to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, open the Compass, and select Members Control Center.
  2. Find the current administrator and click the “i” information icon next to their account.
  3. Select Settings > Replace Me.

Enter the email address of the new administrator or user, select Replace Me, and confirm the transfer.

Four-step 3DEXPERIENCE guide showing how to select the current administrator, choose Replace Me, and enter a new administrator email.

The recipient will receive an email with instructions to accept the transfer. Once accepted, the new user becomes the Platform Administrator and the previous administrator loses that access.

Important: If Replace Me is unavailable because of the 30-day restriction, or you cannot access the existing administrator account, contact our technical support team so the administrator change can be completed.

Network vs. Standalone

A Network license allows multiple users to share a pool of licenses across a network, while a Standalone license is tied to a single computer and can only be used by one user at a time.

  • If you are a sole user or prefer to have dedicated licenses for each machine, a standalone license will likely be the best option. However, for teams that need to share licenses across multiple users or locations, network licenses offer greater flexibility.

Term vs. Perpetual

With a perpetual license, you own the software and can use it forever, while with a term license, you only have access to the software for the duration of your subscription period.

  • If you have stable design needs, a predictable budget and want to own the software outright, perpetual is your best option. For companies with fluctuating project needs who want lower upfront costs and flexibility to adjust their software usage, term licenses are your best option.
